Why Instrument Calibration is Necessary

Instrument calibration is amongst the leading bestpractices helping laboratories deliver exceptional customer services. Clinical laboratories that consider calibration as something more than just a routine jobare not only able to produce accurate and reliable results, butcan ensure better relationship with patients for continued growth and success.

Calibration is measurement of the accuracy, precision, and consistency of the instrument by establishing a reference point or benchmark. In order to achieve the optimal accuracy, the standard measuring device should be ten times more efficient than the device being calibrated.

Does Your Equipment Need Calibration?

No matter what you measure or how often the device is used, every instrument should be calibrated. Some companies offer a pre-calibration test to determine whether the instrument needs calibration while others recommend calibration of all equipment, regardless ofits need for the test.

Calibration is intended for two purposes, in general. Firstly, thecalibration companymeasures the quality of results, and then makes necessary adjustments in the device, as needed. Once calibrated, the company provides a complete report detailing the errors before and after the calibration.

Why is Calibration So Important?

Calibration verifies the quality of results generated using a device. Since every device has a tendency tooscillate over time, calibration is essential to minimize the possibility of errors or inconsistency by ensuring the accuracy of thetesting equipment.

Besides this, a well-calibratedinstrument can help make better decisions leading to improved healthcare. For example, if an instrument delivers accurate blood testing results, it may provide patients and doctors withtimely information about a health condition to take the right action on the right time.

When Should You Calibrate Your Instrument

Your calibration schedule may depend on the following factors:

  • The manufacturer’s recommended periodfor calibration
  • After a repair
  • Periodic needs– monthly, quarterly, yearly
  • Regulatory requirements in the country or region you are operating in

Calibration may be performed either internally or through a reputable calibration company. Since the consequences and cost associated with faulty measurements may be much higher than the cost of calibration, it is recommended that you hire a professional calibrator to make sure that your instruments generate optimal results withminimum or zeroerrors.

Calibration is vitally important in clinical laboratory settings. It enables users and businesses to have confidence in the results that lay the foundation for the entire treatment program.

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) for a Healthy Heart

Vitamin Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is an antioxidant that is naturally synthesized by our bodies, it is also found in many of the foods we eat, and is also available in supplement form. There are two kinds of CoQ10: ubiquinol, the antioxidant kind, and ubiquinone, the oxidized kind, which our body converts in part to ubiquinol. Many heart-healthy supplements such as VitaPulse contain some form of CoQ10. Generally speaking, coenzymes are necessary to support enzymes in their different bio-chemical functions. Coenzyme Q10 is a vital component in the chain of events that lead to the chemical reaction that generates energy at the cellular level. It can be found in every cell in our body however it is found in larger concentrations in the bodily organs that have larger energy requirements such as our liver, our kidneys, and most notably our heart.

Many scientific studies have shown the benifits of CoQ10 for cardiovascular heath when consumed in supplement form, most of the benefits come from its ability to effectively utilize oxygen as well as energy production, especially in our heart cells.

Why is CoQ10 necessary?
CoQ10 is beneficial towards cardiovascular health in several ways. It helps to maintain the standard oxidative rate of bad cholesterol (LDL) while assuring proper circulatory health, and it supports proper function of our heart muscles. CoQ10 has also been shown to aid in the health of blood vessels. In addition to the heart health benefits, Coenzyme Q10 also plays a vital role in lowering the frequency and intensity of migraines as well as increasing sperm count in men. Further scientific research has shown that CoQ10 has the ability to slow down the progression of Parkinson’s disease. In some clinical studies it was found that CoQ10 when taken as a supplement helped prevent and treat gingivitis.

Although our body produces some CoQ10, it is recommended that we add foods to our diet that are high in CoQ10 as well as taking a daily supplement such as VitaPulse. The average daily diet has about 10 mg of CoQ10 in it, so it is recommended that you take a supplement to obtain the optimal daily amount of 100mg – 150mg.

Are there any risks associated with too much Coenzyme Q10?
There have not been a great deal of studies done on CoQ10 to determine if too much can be harmful, however the studies that have been performed all indicate that the body can handle as much as 1000mg per day without any adverse side effects, which is well above the recommended daily dosage.

Maintaining Your Health and Wellness

Now that you have been through health complications, you have good reasons to maintain your health. A good diet, a healthy lifestyle, and regular checkups will help ensure your health as well as that of your family. Every day is a preparation for the days that follow. If you don’t love and admire yourself, it doesn’t matter what easy-to-follow health tips you embrace in your lifestyle; you will always be missing out something.

A healthy Diet

Eating well is one of the best things you can do to stay healthy. A good diet increases your energy, improves your sense of well-being, and lowers risk of disease. What you eat is linked to your risk of serious health problems, such as heart disease, insomnia, cancer, cholesterol, diabetes, and osteoporosis. Making healthy choices will help you give you a healthy beginning.

Drink plenty of water

Drinking plenty of water throughout the day especially about a minimum of eight glasses a day will go a long way in getting rid of toxins even while it aids in digestion.

Eating organic fresh, whole and natural foods

Eat organic fresh, whole and natural occurring foods that are freshly prepared. For your health and external appearance, one must avoid packaged, frozen and processed foods as they offer zero nutritional value and do zilch for your health problems.

An important factor in helping you become and keep fit is a regular physical activity. It also is a good way to relax and control your weight. An exercise program can help you cope with the rigors to stay healthy for years to come. Walking up and down stairs in your home is a good cardiovascular exercise and improves muscle tone and strength in the legs. Exercise doesn’t have to mean trekking out in the rain and hit to the gym – a good exercise can be followed in the warmth of your own home.

Don’t starve yourself

Cutting out too many calories can backfire in more ways than one. Your metabolism will slow down so much that you will not only stop losing weight, but you will be lucky if you can peel yourself off the couch.

Eat five small meals instead of three large ones

You might think you should eat less often if you want to stay healthy, but that is just not the case. By eating every few hours, you keep your metabolism fired up and ensure it does not slow down between meals in order to hang on to calories. However, a meal can be as small as a cup of soup.

Loads of leafy Greeny vegetables

Eat loads of leafy green vegetables like any kind of seaweed, broccoli, brussel sprouts, collard greens and spinach. These veggies are loaded with antioxidants, help regulate your hormones and contain many essential vitamins and minerals like iron and calcium.

Consume juicy fruits

Consume juicy fruits like grapes, melons, pears, plums, grapefruit, oranges, pomegranates, pineapple, figs, dates and apples. These foods are brimmed with antioxidants, promote efficient digestion, and help remove impurities from your body and are healthy for your skin and body.

When a new day comes we can start afresh with new determination. Take pleasure and pride in the changes that you have made. All of us want to live a full life, look young, healthy and fresh and have the energy to attend to our basic needs. All it takes is a little care and a few healthy habits that we should follow in all our lives.

Types of Health and Wellness Businesses and Their Contribution to Society

The health and wellness market is a booming industry. People are buying health products such as targeted vitamins and minerals and wellness services such as massage and acupuncture so as to ensure physical wholeness and overall good health. The motivation comes from the improved knowledge that the modern man has about his body and environment.

The public has obtained access to health education and promotion through various media, and as a result, there is a rapid transformation on how we have looked at health and wellness these last 30-40 years. A few decades ago, the house-call doctor who had a strong educational background but an equally strong intuitive knowledge went the way of the dodo, to be replaced by institutionalized “Big Health” that has proven over the years to be faceless, uncompassionate, and ridiculously expensive.

In the meantime, we as a people have been exposed to theories of health and wellness from the Far East and our own ancient times, and we’ve come to recognize that perhaps there’s more to staying healthy than popping pills and getting broken bones set.

Health and wellness products have indeed been in demand over the last few years, and this is due in part to the exposure they have received through the media. We see health issues addressed in internet websites, magazines, books, newsletters and even on television, where Oprah’s ‘Doctor Oz’ now has his own show, and ‘The Doctors’ is a common daytime panel show about health and wellness.

Health journals are cropping up, even major news magazines such as Time, Newsweek and Focus have contributed a lot of articles, editorials and special issues to nutrition and wellness.

Economists in the United States suggest that in the years to come, the wellness business will be one of the leading contributors of economic growth. In fact, in this country, the sales of this industry have already reached $200 million and will soon match the sales of the ‘traditional’ health care sector!

The health and wellness industry is all about selling wellness products and services which improve the health of their customers. Since there is a wide range of products and services included in this scope, we can divide them into a variety following types of health and wellness businesses. Here’s a partial list:

  • Voluntary medicine – examples under this type are lifestyle drugs and plastic cosmetic surgery.
  • Wellness resources – these are the information segment of the society, or media informing the people regarding wellness products and services.
  • Wellness insurance – financial resources for a large number of wellness services and preventative medicines, including chiropractic care and even acupuncture.
  • Nutritional services and products – including vitamin supplements, nutritionist, local organic food stores, etc.
  • Fitness services and products – including massage therapists, spas, chiropractor, etc.
  • Preventative health care – treating, modifying or controlling health risk factors
  • Alternative health care – this includes meditation, yoga, herbalism, homeopathy, hypnosis, acupuncture, traditional Chinese medicine, naturopathy, etc.
  • Health and wellness tourism – characterized by customers who would use traveling expenses to look for medical tourism hubs across the globe, offering products and services for these health and wellness seekers.

As you can see, the health and wellness industry has grown significantly, thanks to the huge support it has obtained from several other sectors. New opportunities have opened for health and wellness initiatives, whether it be on the side of selling products and services or in the dissemination of valuable health and wellness information.

The industry is indeed a huge network of products and services, all together with a common theme of being the answer to the sicknesses and diseases that are growing rampant in our society today. Many of these are caused by industries that sell unhealthy goods and commodities. All the types of health and wellness businesses have blossomed in order to come to our rescue.

Because of all of this blooming and blossoming, if you’re an entrepreneur looking to start a business, a health and wellness business is an excellent choice — the competition might look stiff, but it’s an industry where the consumer is trained to be suspicious of success and look for the local, ‘little guy’…which is exactly where you could fit in!

Maintaining Health and Wellness Naturally

In recent years, there has been an influx of attention being paid to the  health   and   wellness  of many people across the globe. This is come about due to the gained knowledge and awareness of what prescription medicine may offer in terms of risk to one’s overall health in time. Since mankind has used natural herbs for maintaining a healthy lifestyle for thousands of years before the introduction of synthetic medicine, a return to this state of being provided by Mother earth is being sought after. When one considers that may synthetic drugs have been designed after chemicals that occur naturally, one can begin to understand that the answer most likely already exists in organic form.

Whenever the Food and Drug Administration starts evaluating certain herbs for their benefit for aiding in the recovery of a medical illness, they usually attempt to isolate the alkaloids that are thought to be the cause for improvement. Whenever these elements are isolated, their chemical structure is also studied for the purpose of creating a “more efficient” product. Although the goal is produce a product that does not vary based off of growing conditions, such as location and quality of soil, there can sometimes be negatives that arrive as a result.

When you consider that humans are organic beings, and herbs are organic as well, you can understand that the two go hand in hand. The human body does not always react well to inorganic substances, even if they react even more intensely and for longer duration within the brain. Sometimes, the conscious mind is not aware of the function being carried out by the drug within the body until a considerable amount of time after. This can significantly hinder the level of  wellness  one achieves  and  maintains.

It is of the utmost importance for one to understand what a chemical does within one’s body. Not all doctors are going to be upfront about this. Many truly do not even know, for they base their foundation on medical findings that may not always be able to measure the type of effect that the brain may be undergoing. Sometimes, these long term negative effects are not known until long after a drug has been prescribed for a specific illness. Usually, with a bit of researching, one can find the original alkaloids being imitated and have success with a natural alternative instead of taking the risk of having long term effects like this.

Take the time to study any medications that your doctor is suggesting to take, as well as any natural suggestions as well. Both have their benefits,  and  well as their risks. doing so will help to ensure the path to  wellness  that aligns all parts of one’s being.

Health and Wellness Products for a Healthy Lifestyle

Health   and   wellness  products are aimed to promote a healthy lifestyle by catering to the physical, as well as mental  and  emotional aspects of  health .

Health   and   wellness  products are used to take care of the body  and  mind by managing stress, aiding healthy eating habits, as well as maintaining a safe environment.

When someone speaks of  wellness , they are referring to what is called “alternative medicine,” which deals with the state of being healthy  and   health-conscious .

Well Being

When determining the well being of a person, many factors are taken into consideration. Some of these factors include nutrition, disease prevention, environmental influences, as well as public health issues.

There are  health   and   wellness  products on the market that explore  and  achieve this sense of well-being which alternative medicine offers.

Health   and   wellness  products are based upon the idea  and  practice that the body as a whole should be taken care of after the basic living necessities are in order. This concept of  wellness  was developed into a popular concern during the late 19th century. This came at a time when the public began to place emphasis on self-improvement.

Many early  health   and   wellness  products were considered simple items like toothpaste, mouthwash  and  certain cereals, which were marketed as such at that time.

Blood pressure machines, cholesterol tests  and  glucose meters can also be considered a  health   and   wellness  product because they monitor some of the body’s overall state of  health . Other  health   and   wellness  products include vitamins or items which avoid certain food elements that have been proven to lower a person’s well being.

Preventive Health Care

There are some people who wish to follow a variety of preventive  health  care methods, including homeopathy, as well as herbal medicine, which provides an array of different  health   and   wellness  product options. These practices are considered alternative because there is no concrete scientific evidence to prove whether these methods are effective.

Some  health   and   wellness  products can come in the form of jewelry, such as BalanceBracelets, which are supposed to decrease pain, as well as increase energy.

To ease joint pain, some will turn to the use of copper bracelets, rings and anklets for treating the discomfort caused by arthritis and tendonitis.

Another  health   and   wellness  product utilizes magnetic therapy, which can be found in the form of bracelets, rings, necklaces, bangles, as well as magnetic wraps.

Healing Energy

Plenty of  health   and   wellness  products can be found on the Internet that embraces the concept of Reiki healing energy. There are items include transformational beeswax ear candles, which are made up of herbs, flower essences and crystals. Some people use this form of alternative medicine to increase the strength of their aura.

Other  health   and   wellness  products that are available include:

· Light Therapy Products, such as portable desk lamps that offer a person 10,000 lux of diffused light that can be used to treat seasonal conditions.

· Herbal Supplements, including kava, ginseng, noni juice and energy drinks.

· Gemstone Therapy Products, including jewelry and crystals for the purpose of healing, as well as psychic enhancement purposes.

· Colloidal Silver and Zinc, which comes in the form of a pill, is used as an immune booster.

Health And Wellness Will Thrive

Health   And   Wellness  Will Thrive – Looking Back

In about two weeks’ time, I will be able to look back over 24 months and reflect upon my personal journey. I was introduced to the  Wellness  Industry by a neighbor in November 2010. I began buying supplements, but it was not until January 2011 that I decided to make a significant change in my life.

Nothing spiritual, mind you, but the change was with regards to my physical health. The particular company that I purchased supplements from introduced a new full body composition program. I made a commitment to try the program and purchased the body composition system of supplements. So began my journey to a healthier lifestyle that I will always be thankful for.

The program also included recommended exercises along with the nutrition. My challenge, of course, was facing my eating habits straight on and making drastic changes. That’s right, no more potato chips, cheese burgers, French fries, pizza, pasta, cake, brownies, chocolate, soda, etc. Okay, so what is there left to eat?

I still ate these foods, but not so frequently. I remember eating a lot of salad in the beginning along with protein foods like chicken, salmon, tuna, eggs, cottage cheese, and almonds. These core protein staples are still a part of my daily diet. However, these 24 months have given me time to study more about nutrition, exercise, and how supplements work.

My start weight was about 240 pounds and now I have maintained a weight of 190 pounds for about one month now in December 2012. I will see if I can get down to 185 pounds before January 11, 2013 which will mark exactly 24 months from when I made my commitment to change my physical life. I vowed that I would live to be 100 years old. Now, this is a ridiculous goal, but if I make it, I will have a fine story to tell.

Health   And   Wellness  Will Thrive – A Pervasive Industry

What do we know about the  Wellness  Industry? Has  health   and   wellness  always been a thriving industry? What is a pervasive industry and who defines a healthy revolution?

Back in 2002, Paul Zane Pilzer outlined an emerging $200 billion industry. In 2007 that industry was over $500 billion and is on target to be over $1 trillion. Dr. Pilzer introduced tips  and  best practices for large $100 million  wellness  companies back in 2002. However, in his new edition of The  Wellness  Revolution, he shifts his focus to add information useful for individual  wellness  entrepreneurs,  health  product distributors, physicians, chiropractors,  and  other small business professionals.

It is interesting how the period from 2003 through 2008 has brought about unique changes to the way that we communicate among friends, family, and associates. Michael Drew suggests in his book, Pendulum, that these six years are a transitory period from a Hero Worshipping “Me” Cycle to the Village Camaraderie “We” Cycle. Dr. Pilzer did well to update his book from one that advised $100 million  wellness  companies to one that spread the “wealth of knowledge” to the individual. Bringing the individual up to a level par with large companies is a characteristic of the “We” Cycle where collectively we are strong, but individually we are not okay.

Is the  Wellness  Industry a trend or temporary fad? Dr. Pilzer does not see it as such. He is an economist and therefore is well positioned to be an authority on analyzing how trends and fads come and go. The professor side of him narrows the study of a sustainable industry in to 5 characteristics.

“Experienced entrepreneurs and investors look for all five of the following characteristics to be present before they launch a new mass-market business.” (p 10)

  1. Affordability
  2. Legs
  3. Continual consumption
  4. Universal appeal
  5. Low consumption time

Apply these characteristics to the  Wellness  Industry  and  you will see that most products  and  services connected with  health   and   wellness  share in these characteristics.

Health   And   Wellness  Will Thrive – Mini-case Study: Whey Protein

Let’s look at a generic Whey protein drink product. I just conducted a search online and found that a 2 pound container of EAS 100% Whey Protein sells for $23.64 (currently December 24, 2012). A 5 pound container from Gold Standard sells for $59.99 at Walgreens. If the serving size is one scoop, then 2 pounds of Whey protein has about 23 servings. That comes to just over $1.00 per serving.

When you consider the fact that many people buy $5 coffee from Starbucks every day, you would agree that $1.00 for a drink of Whey protein is AFFORDABLE. At this price, the product should not be hard to market and should literally WALK OFF THE SHELF; this is why there are so many brands of Whey protein on the market these days. As more and more people self-actuate their own personal health and weight management, Whey protein will be a product that consumers will CONTINUE TO BUY. There are so many studies of how effective Whey protein is in restoring and rebuilding muscle after exercise, that there is a natural UNIVERSAL APPEAL for the product. Finally, the fact that a 2 pound container has 23 servings and can be fully consumed within 2 to 3 weeks depending on your exercise frequency, you cannot disagree that Whey protein has a LOW CONSUMPTION TIME.

Our mini-case study shows how one product connected with  health   and   wellness  shares strong characteristics of a pervasive industry product  and  is not merely a trend or fad that will fall in popularity. If anything, these types of products will continue to expand as we move deeper into Michael Drew’s forecast of a “We” Cycle where the village protection is revered over the individual hero. Robert Kiyosaki recognizes this trend in his recent book, The Business Of The 21st Century. “The power is not in the product. The power is in the network. If you want to become rich, the best strategy is to find a way to build a strong, viable, growing network.” (p 60). Empowering individuals to build networking teams in direct sales is a complement during a “We” Cycle. Refer to the Pendulum book for more details of what you can expect to see over the next 40 years before swinging back to a “Me” Cycle.

Health   And   Wellness  Will Thrive – The Healthy Revolution

For so many years during the “Me” Cycle (i.e., namely the 40 year period from 1963 through 2003), many  wellness  products  and  services were only available to the rich and famous. During a period of “Me” there is a strong reverence to the individual hero. I remember how popular Superman, Spiderman, Batman, Hercules, He-Man, and others were as I grew up watching and admiring Heroes. Yet, the tides are turning and heroes are being questioned and tried like subjects of a witch hunt. All you have to do is compare the original Star Wars series with the newer prequel Episodes. You can clearly contrast the Heroic Luke Skywalker of the original series with the self-imploding Anakin in the Episodes.

So, as the  wellness  industry transfers from the rich  and  famous to be readily available to the masses, we can better comprehend how the  Wellness  Industry is well on its way to becoming a trillion dollar industry. In closing, here are a few words from Dr. Pilzer.

Wellness  industry products  and  services have perhaps the strongest legs of any product or service, as people immediately notice when someone has a  wellness  experience  and  are anxious to duplicate the results.” (p 13)

Wellness  products  and  services represent perhaps the only sector of consumer spending that does not take time to enjoy. Money spent to make a person feel stronger, smile better, look younger, or feel healthier yields rewards that are enjoyed every moment of every day – on the job, at home, and at every moment in between.” (p 14)

Health And Wellness Quiz

Sometimes challenging your mind is as much fun as challenging your body. Take this health and wellness quiz to find out how much you know!

  1. Soy protein is the best way to build muscle. True/False
  2. Wheat flour is genetically modified. True/False
  3. Is it best to do full sit-ups or crunches? Full/Crunch
  4. How many calories will you burn walking quickly for an hour? 160, 360, 560, 760
  5. Drinking coffee will help you lose weight. True/False
  6. A farmer plants an organic canola crop next to a crop of genetically modified canola. The organic crop remains organic. True/False
  7. Organically grown produce is selling at a greater rate each year. True/False
  8. There is a limit to the number of chemicals farmers can use on a field in the US. True/False
  9. Diet sodas will help you lose weight. True/ False
  10. Yoga is the best exercise. True/False

Health and wellness quiz answers:

1. Interestingly enough, this answer is false. A recent study done at McMaster University and recently published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that skim milk works better than a soy drink at producing muscle in men. Since soy and milk proteins are both considered to be complete proteins, scientists don’t have a reason why milk produced almost twice as much muscle as the soy drink in the 10 week study.

2. At this time, wheat, rye and barley are not genetically modified. In 2004, an application to grow GMO wheat was withdrawn and Canada and the United States now only grow conventional wheat. Baked goods may contain other ingredients that are genetically modified. Soy is a major contributor with its oil, lecithin and flour sometimes mixed with wheat flour. Maize is also genetically modified and can be added in the form of corn syrup.

3. If you are interested in strengthening your abs, the crunch is the preferred exercise. A sit-up is the full range of motion where your elbows start flat on the floor and end up touching or going past the knees. A crunch is a modified sit-up, that raises the head and upper body off the floor, but stops at that point. A sit-up uses the leg muscles as well as the abs and can stress the lower back. Crunches put less stress on the body. Most people perform them too quickly. A better way is to rise slowly off the floor, hold the upper position for a count to four and lower slowly to the floor. Obliques can also be engaged with a diagonal movement.

4. A person weighing 170 pounds will burn 360 calories in an hour if they are walking a very quick 4 miles per hour. You will burn the equivalent of a Starbuck’s Pumpkin Spice Latte Whipped tall (their smallest size). Or you could have a Cinnamon Raisin Bagel. If you want both, you’ll have to walk another hour!

5. When you think of coffee, you normally think of the caffeine in the coffee. But when you are dieting, you need to think of the acid in coffee. Acid is hard on your digestive system. Drinking coffee, especially first thing in the morning is like dumping a load of acid directly into your stomach. If you add cream and sugar, you are making your system work even harder to diffuse and dilute non-nutritious substances. The best thing to drink when you are on a diet (and when you are not dieting!) is green or white tea. Green tea has some caffeine but it had lots of anti-oxidants which support dieting and are beneficial for good health.

6. A recent report out of Australia talks about genetically-modified organisms spreading to and contaminating a nearby field of non-GMO and organic crops. The organic farmer states that the GMO seeds traveled nearly a mile and took hold of 540 acres of his land. He has a certified organic farm and gets a premium for sales in Australia and overseas. The organic certifier is conducting an official investigation, but it looks like the Australian government is giving preferential treatment to the GMO industry and will look the other way. GMO canola has previously been banned in Australia, but in March 2010 was “unbanned” and believed it could safely be segregated from natural crops.

In another example of cross contamination, Percy Schmeiser of Saskatchewan, Canada was visited by representatives from Monsanto (the creators of genetically modified canola seeds) to pay a “Technology Fee” to Monsanto for growing GMO crops. The unusual twist to this story is that Percy did not plant the crop. His organic crop was contaminated with seed from another field. Despite threats and heavy intimidation from the billion dollar company, Percy decided to sue Monsanto and in 2008 came up with a victory over Monsanto. He not only did not have to pay the “fee”, Monsanto was ordered to pay for the clean-up costs to his fields.

7. True. In 1990, the organic food business started at $1 billion. In 2011, the organic business surpassed $30 billion dollars and it grew by 9.4 percent that year. Organic is the fastest growing segment in the grocery industry.

8. False. There are limits to the amount of a single pesticide found in food, but there are no limits to the number of different pesticides that are allowed in food. This is worrisome, because some of these toxins work together and form more toxic substances together than apart

9. False. Health and wellness advocates will all tell you that diet sodas will help you “gain” weight. A study by Harvard Medical School found diet cola linked to double the risk of kidney disease. The high acid (pH3.2) is linked to a higher incident of tooth decay. The carbonation in cola suppresses the immune system by tying up calcium for up to 10 hours. Artificial sweeteners have been linked to cancer. Plus add in the fact that the body reacts to the lack of calories by wanting “more” calories later, messing up your metabolism and causing you to eat more.

10. True. In a 2010 study at the University of Maryland School Of Nursing, yoga was compared to aerobic exercise and health and wellness researchers were surprised at the results. Yoga came out ahead in improving balance, flexibility, strength, lowering pain levels in seniors, reducing menopausal symptoms and lowering stress levels. The researchers did state that this is not an “either/or” situation. There is room for both yoga and aerobic exercise, so don’t throw away those walking shoes!

Health and Wellness Industry Review

Why are we writing this Health and Wellness Industry Review? What’s So Hot About Health and Wellness? The answer lies in the convergence of two trends. The first trend was sparked by the fact that the Baby Boomers are living longer than previous generations ever have in the past. They’re looking at ways to keep themselves healthy, active and vital so that they can enjoy life into their later years. They’re focusing on being well — or “Wellness” instead of waiting to get sick and just reacting to it with medications.

The second trend, is also at least partly the result of baby boomers and the longer life span of the population in general. What are people going to do now to ensure that they have the money to enjoy their retirement — sometimes for the next 20, 30 or 40 years? With the breakdown of the old order (financial system) it’s becoming absolutely critical to generate a passive and residual income stream.

Thus, we get the birth of an industry — Health and Wellness.

Due to the reasons mentioned above, lots of people are thinking about launching a home based business.

With the economy the way it is, and unemployment rates growing, it’s no wonder some are turning to a home business as a way to make a living.

But how do you decide what to do? So many choices out there, so many “business opportunities” screaming “I am the best opportunity-make lots of money…fast…easy…overnight…” and on and on it goes.

Hopefully you’ve gone through our other articles to help you and guide you down the path that’s right for you.

When you’re trying to decide what type of home business you want to set up, of course it’s a good idea to take a look at what industries are hot – and will continue to grow.

We’re going to focus on an industry that has absolutely exploded – and is anticipated to continue to grow for years to come – the Health and Wellness Industry. Industry. People who have become involved in this industry are finding it Extremely Lucrative and are poised to do quite well financially in the future.

The Health and Wellness Industry is concerned with prevention of illness and disease.

This is different from Health industry which includes doctors, hospitals, pharmacies and pharmaceutical companies. This industry focuses on treating the symptoms of illness, and not on prevention of sickness, and or helping people feel healthier.

The Health and Wellness Industry is expected to be a $1 trillion dollar industry by 2010. This industry includes nutritional supplements, juices, health/fitness clubs, chiropractic, naturopathy, homeopathy, and holistic health care. So what are the forces making the Health and Wellness industry so hot?

The economic downturn has affected peoples’ ability to spend money on insurance, doctor visits, and hospital stays. People are focusing on prevention of sickness and disease: According to cNMI (Natural Marketing Institute) President Maryellen Molyneaux:

“NMI research clearly shows that the current economic downturn is changing consumer behavior on many levels, including spending related to health and wellness. So while sales in each category continue to grow, consumers are becoming more discerning and are looking for real value in their purchases and not just the perceived value. This shift in behavior will impact manufacturers and retailers not just short-term but also in the future. With the economic future unclear, NMI projects that the health and wellness industry as a whole will remain relatively stable over the next five years at approximately 7% growth each year.”

More and more people are searching for ways to prevent illness and improve the quality of their life through better health. Many people feel that the nature of western medicine is treating symptoms, rather than preventing disease. They also feel that what traditional medicine does best is treating emergencies, not not keeping people from getting sick in the first place.

Many Doctors and scientists have dedicated their lives to finding natural “cures” for common “dis-eases” and have embraced a natural approach to treating peoples’ conditions.

Pharmaceutical concerns: There is growing mistrust in the general population towards the pharmaceutical industry. Side effects of medications are often serious, and sometimes even lethal.

Lawsuits and product recalls are making people leery of just taking a pill in hopes of getting better. The majority of prescriptions are merely to treat symptoms of sickness, not in curing or preventing disease.

This is creating lifetime customers. Pharmaceuticals are being designed to be taken for life — and people are becoming aware of the dangers of this to their health.

People are living longer. And they want to be healthy doing it. Life spans keeps getting longer, and people are willing to invest in their health more now than ever before. They are seeking ways to feeling good, staying well, and having health and vitality — and are turning to the Health and Wellness Industry for the answers.
