First edition of the well-known and extensive work on the Mediterranean islands. Containing beautifully and detailed executed maps and descriptions of Cyprus, Rhodos, Samos, Lemnos, Paros and many more. Dapper's book is a magnificent production as far as printing is concerned and at the same time an interesting source for the islands of the Mediterranean Archipelago. Dapper never visited the places he described in his book . He compiled his descriptions from the writings of known travellers, or from the accounts of seamen.
Some of the plates in this work are based on the designs from Boschini's L'Archipelago (Venice,1658). A French translation was published in Amsterdam in 1703.
