Republic 2008. New Euro currency.

 

The new 2008 Euro set comprising eight coins in uncirculated condition (1,2,5,10,20,50 cents and 1 and 2 Euro ).

Cypriot Euro coins were minted by Rahapaja Oy, in Helsinki-Vantaa, Finland.

Tatiana Soteropoulos and Erik Maell are credited with the design of the Cypriot Euro coins.

The centre of the 1,2 and 5 cents coins depict a couple of moufflons, the most characteristic species of the country's wildlife.

The centre of the 10,20 and 50 cents coins depict the ship of Kyrenia (4th century B.C.) representing the island's relationship with the sea and its importance in trade and maritime activities.

The inner circle of the 1 and 2 Euro coins depict a cross-shaped idol dating back to the chalcolithic period (3000 B.C.), from the village of Pomos which is a characteristic example of Cypriot prehistoric art.

The 2008 5 Euro Silver Proof coin issued to commemorate the accession of Cyprus to the Euro Area. It is housed in a dark blue case and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
