Frangoudes a distinguished lawyer, journalist, writer and politician , was born in Limassol in 1869. He studied law in Athens and Politics in Paris. After his studies he returned to Athens where he became actively involved in the intricate Greek political scene of the early twentieth century. He begun the publication of the " Metarythmisis" newspaper which acidly criticized the pro- Royalist parties. Because of this criticism he survived an attempt on his life but was later imprisoned. He later left Greece and practiced law in Alexandria and Khartoum. In 1920 he returned to Cyprus and started publishing the first Cypriot daily newspaper "Phos". In 1921 he again left for Greece where he started again the publication of " Metarythmisis". In 1923 he was elected to Parliament and in 1930 he founded and became the first principal ( 1930-1937) of the "Panteios Higher School of Political Sciences". He died in 1939. The book was published to cover the lack of any Greek publication on Cyprus and was used by Cypriot teachers of the time " yia ton fronimatismon tis neas yeneas tis Kyprou". With this publication Frangoudes managed to save for posterity unique information regarding the everyday life of Cypriots, both in villages and towns, during the first years of British Colonial rule. It is divided in three parts; Part One deals with life in Cyprus in the 1880's; Part Two is a history of Cyprus from ancient times till the end of the nineteenth century and Part Three is a tour ( done on foot ) of Cyprus starting from his birthplace Limassol...... to Zygi, Mari .....
