| Tabula Nova Asiae Minores + Tabula Prima Asia by Waldseemόller/Fries. 1541, Strassburg. From the Ptolemy Argent Atlas. Size 40x29 cms. EACH. Two Waldseemόller/Fries maps of Anatolia: the Ptolemy map with the view from antiquity and the new Renaissance map changing shape. These woodcut maps are Fries' reductions of Waldseemόller's 1513 maps of the area. The 'tabula nova' is (after the 1513 version) the earliest obtainable modern map of present-day Turkey and Cyprus. The Ptolemy map of Cyprus is with the Carpas Peninsula pointing westwards . From the 1541 Servetus edition. Some wormholes were expertly repaired and do not detract. Latin text on verso. The maps are offered for sale as a pair. Price: $ On request |
