| The Agitation against the Turkish Suzerainty in Cyprus. Photographed by J.P. Foscolo, Limassol. 15 x 10.5 cms. The Graphic 1895. A rare photogravure. The caption under the engraving reads "A mass meeting of Turkish Cypriots ( Yeah, Yeah, in a sea of Greek flags! ) was recently held at Limassol to petition the English Government to enter into negotiations with the Porte with a view to bring about the union of Cyprus with Greece ( obviously they didn't hear of the Anan Plan ); or, failing that, to abolish the yearly tribute of 92,500 pounds payable ( by the Greeks ) to Turkey under the Convention of 1878.
