1863 Nautical Map CYPRUS Famagusta Syria Lebanon Turkey

Original large-format nautical chart of part of the eastern Mediterranean, printed in Paris more than 142 years ago.

This handsome, engraved map is titled Carte du Canal compris entre La Côte est de l'Ile de Chypre et la Côte de Syrie de Ras El-Bazit a Tripoli. It measures a generous 64 x 91 cm [25" x 36"] overall and shows soundings, bottom conditions, landmarks, and shoreline features.

The coverage area includes the eastern end of the island of Cyprus, from Cape Greco to Cape Andreas, including Varosha, Cape Elea, the Apostolos Andreas Monastery, Famagusta, and the ruins of Salamis — the most important ancient city in Cyprus.
