Original large-format nautical chart
of part of the eastern
Mediterranean, printed in Paris more
than 142 years ago.
This handsome,
engraved map is titled Carte du
Canal compris entre La Côte est de
l'Ile de Chypre et la Côte de Syrie
de Ras El-Bazit a Tripoli. It
measures a generous 64 x 91 cm [25"
x 36"] overall and shows soundings,
bottom conditions, landmarks, and
shoreline features.
The coverage area includes the
eastern end of the island of Cyprus,
from Cape Greco to Cape Andreas,
including Varosha, Cape Elea, the
Apostolos Andreas Monastery,
Famagusta, and the ruins of Salamis
— the most important ancient city in
Cyprus. |
