65. PROFESSOR N. TULP'S ANATOMICAL
LECTURE by Rembrandt. The Master
here, eliminating all details too real and too shocking, was able to
make of his subject (anatomy) a composition, which he raised to the
domain of poetry. The colouring of the picture is plain and austere and
the effect of the light impresses on it a sublime character.
