24. SASKIA by Rembrandt. Here the Master has represented his first wife whom he had married in 1634. It shows her in all the brilliancy of youth and of a fancy costume arranged by the painter.. and adorned by a profusion of gems. Her hair is thrown back behind, her profile is delicate, the nose is fine, the mouth closed and compressed.

25. PORTRAIT OF A MAN by Pieter Rubens. The man is standing upright, and seen to the knees; in his left hand he holds his gloves; his right rests on the back of a chair; these hands are masterly painted. The head with a long beard is well characterised . The dress is black and very plain.
