Ref: Zacharakis, #1162b, Stylianou fig. 83. The extremely rare composite de Jode map in excellent condition. This important and rare map of Cyprus which was published in the atlas 'Speculum Orbis Terrarum' in 1593, by Cornelius de Jode ( son of Gerard, cartographer, engraver and printer c1509-1591 ) was one of the main competitors in the Atlas market in the middle-late sixteenth century. However his atlas 'Speculum Orbis Terrarum' was pretty unsuccessful in the market, compared to the already, in various editions, widespread 'Theatrum Orbis Terrarum' by Abraham Ortelius. De Jodes atlas which was only published in two editions, is seldom broken, making each and every map extremely rare and highly desirable by the map collecting community. Price: CyP 5,000.00 |
