This engraving illustrates a mounted British officer and his lady taking a leisurely ride in Larnaca with the aid of a Turkish muleteer on a hot day in August 1878. Usually the mules and horses in the towns were used by the foreign diplomats and tradesmen, and the local notables and aristocrats, while the rest of the natives enjoyed their promenade along the shore on foot.
