36.Disembarking Horses in the roadstead at Larnaca. 1878. Size: 31x21 cms. Following the Treaty of Berlin the British Admiralty ordered the Channel Squadron ( commanding officer :Vice-Admiral Lord John Hay, aboard his flagship H.M.S. " Minotaur") which was at that time anchored near the port of Suda, Crete, to proceed at once to the island of Cyprus. On July 8th. 1878 it reached the Cypriote port of Larnaca. In this gravure we have boats disembarking horses and troops on the island, thus starting the British occupation of the Island which lasted for eighty two years.
