" Our present engraving represents the modern village of Cerine or Cerinia situated on the northern coast; and the point of view is on the shore, to the north-west of the place. When Cerine was visited by Mr. Maddox in January 1826, it had a large fort containing twenty or twenty five cannon, and garrisoned by fifteen soldiers, and its population consisted of thirty families of Greeks and Turks."
